The Sicilian Wolf (Canis lupus cristaldii) is a subspecies of the grey wolf, found only on the island of Sicily in Italy. It is also known as the Italian Wolf or South Italian Wolf. This subspecies is smaller than the other Italian wolf subspecies and its fur is reddish-brown or grayish-brown. Historically, the Sicilian wolf was widely distributed across the island, but it is now rare and listed as endangered. Its primary threats are habitat loss, disease, and hunting. Conservation efforts are in place to try and protect this subspecies, including the establishment of protected areas and captive breeding programs.
